[Tutorial 02] Text and Layer Masks / Premiere
In this tutorial, I show how to make text objects and layer masks in Adobe Premiere. There are many ways to make masks, but I just cover what I use the most. If you’re dealing with static masks that are complex and can’t be easily drawn in the Title Designer, I just make the mask in Photoshop and apply Image Matte Key to the layer I want hidden. Then, using the file browser, I select the mask I created.

Sometimes you might run into problems where the mask won’t work. In that case, create a Nested Sequence out of the layer you want masked (Right Click, Nest) and try applying the effect again. In After Effects, this is called “Precomposing.”
