Here is a tutorial for using a simple application of a garbage matte. The Garbage matte can be used in much more complicated settings, but often the very easy ones illustrate the tool the best.

Here I used the 8 point garbage matte for the purpose of blacking out my background completely. There were a few things that were visible, and I wanted them gone. Enjoy!
