Compositing and retouching project: Burned Magazine Ad



Objective: Create a photo illustration of an open magazine where the top page has been damaged by fire, is still smoking, and reveals the copy on the page below. Process/Solution: We worked with photographer Ivan Do to photograph scorched pieces of paper to create the top layer and burn. The hole was selected, masked out and a drop shadow was painted in between layers. Burn effects were added to some of the text elements to make it appear as if the heat had affected the ink. Lastly, smoke effects were painted in. Techniques: retouching, illustration.
