BEGINNER SERIES // Adobe® Fonts® overview and use in Photoshop® Illustrator® and InDesign®



Here is an outline of the steps used to search for a font in fonts.adobe.com and work with them in three Adobe Creative Cloud applications:

Open fonts.adobe.com:
1. Select the All Fonts tab to filter and search for a font
2. Type in sample text and use the filters on the left to do a smart search
3. Choose the view family button and activate single font types or the entire family using the slider buttons
4. Search field at top allows you to search by font name, foundry or designer

Adobe Photoshop:
1. Open the Character panel (Top Menu: Window, Character)
2. Select the font you just activated to add to your layout

Adobe Illustrator:
1. Create a text box using the Type tool (Key Command T on Mac)
2. Open the Character panel (Top Menu: Window, Type, Character, Command + T on Mac)

Adobe InDesign:
1. Create a text box using the Type tool (Key Command T on Mac)
2. Open the Character panel (Top Menu: Window, Type & Tables, Character, Command + T on Mac)

Best practice tip: filter fonts in Adobe Fonts by tag, classification, and properties to isolate the perfect font.
